Dancewalk – Екатеринбург

A performance of an hour or two, dancing through the city park where, last May, about 2,000 people protested against the project to build a church.

From 13 May onwards, the demonstrations became intense, leading to the arrest of more than 70 people, including minors. The city’s deputy mayor, Ekaterina Kuzemka, promised to conduct a demographic survey to decide on the continuation of the project. President Putin himself suggested that the citizens of Yekaterinburg should be heard on this subject. In the end, the survey showed that 58% of Ekaterinburg residents did not want St Catherine’s Cathedral in the park. The plan has been abandoned (at least for now).

Alizée Sourbé and Foofwa d’Imobilité will engage in dance battles, choreographic combats, gestural jousting, involving indigenous residents, musicians, actors and artists, in order to celebrate through dance and art a victory of democracy to save public space and stand up to powerful interests.
