Nicolas Wagnieres

Film director and cameraman

Nicolas Wagnières has been working in the music world throughout the 90’s, having a record shop, a record label and working as deejay in many clubs around Switzerland and Europe.

He studied in early 2000, film-making at the University of Fine Arts in Geneva in the film department. He then worked three years as assistant in the school. He is now working on his own projects, including the writing of a feature film, a documentary film in Belgrade, Serbia, and collaborations with different choregraphers in Geneva.

He first approached the dance scene doing basic captation in Geneva for different choregraphers, and very soon questionned himself about how to use the camera in order to go beyond the simple objectivity of a one still camera, and keeping the meaning and the artistic demarch of the choregrapher. He discovered in the same time film works by Thierry de Mey and Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Maya Deren, Yvonne Rainer, and others. This has pushed his desire to develop his film work with choregraphers.
