CRITIC'S NOTEBOOK
By Anna Kisselgoff
"For all the fun and games, Foofwa (formerly known as Fréderic Gafner in New York) ended his marathon-style run in a roomful of critics and with an instant video replay, à la Cunningham, of his ''Dancerun.'' All the better, he suggested, to see a site-specific piece that explored physical effort in dance and sport.

Very different was the performance by Foofwa. The video of ''Dancerun'' was filmed by cameramen on scooters and roller skates who accompanied him for 47 minutes. The performance was not all entertainment, but rather, as the choreographer explained, an effort to extend ideas of time and space through the use of distance. The aim was a hybrid, to put a ''qualitative'' aspect into running that athletes do not have."
