A project vice versa in motion.

Media Vice Versa, an attempt to explain the ambiguity of notions of private space and public space, real time and deferred, and the apparent distinction between the concrete and the virtual world of television. In this piece, Foofwa d’Imobilité and Nicolas Rieben question the ways that the media use the human body. By virtue of being hypnotized, manipulated and transformed the human body becomes the subject of a reality show in which all moments of intimacy are lost. The perception of the viewer is totally distorted by the televised intervention. The concepts of real time / delayed time, real or virtual images intersect in the chaos that can no longer distinguish truth from falsehood, manipulated from sincere, presentable from unpresentable. The public, included in this ambiguous presentation, participates on behalf of the ratings of the piece, without knowing where his position as a judge will lead in the piece.
Media Vice Versa is a collaboration between the artist Nicolas Rieben, the dancer and choreographer Foofwa d'Imobilité and artist Christian Marclay. All three were born in Geneva, but have emigrated and are currently working in New York. From the knowledge of each other's work, they had a birth of curiosity which created a desire to collaborate. It was a shared desire to break the boundaries between artistic disciplines and to compare their respective worlds.
This venture became an interactive project, mixing dance, video, music and decor. Nicolas Rieben is a plastic artist but was also interested in participating in the choreography by treating it as a visual element. There was no division in the concept of the work. A project vice versa in motion.

Un projet vice et versa, en mouvement.

Media Vice Versa, ou comment parler de l’ambiguïté des notions d’espace privé et d’espace public, de temps réel et différé, ainsi que de l’apparente distinction entre le concret et le virtuel dans notre monde télévisuel. Dans ce spectacle, Foofwa d’Imobilité et Nicolas Rieben s’interrogent sur la manière dont les médias se servent du corps humain. A force d’être hypermédiatisé, manipulé, transformé, le corps humain devient le sujet d’un reality show dans lequel tous les repères intimes se perdent. La perception de celui qui regarde est totalement faussée par l’intervention télévisuelle. Les notions de temps réel/temps différé, d’image concrète ou virtuelle s’entrecroisent dans un chaos qui ne permet plus de différencier le vrai du faux, le manipulé du sincère, le montrable de l’inmontrable. Le public, inclu dans cette manipulation ambigue, participe au nom de l’audimat à cette mise en scène, sans savoir jusqu’où cette position de juge et de partie le mènera.
Media Vice Versa est une collaboration entre le plasticien Nicolas Rieben, le danseur et chorégraphe Foofwa d’Imobilité et l’artiste Christian Marclay. Tous trois sont d’origine genevoise, mais ont émigré et travaillent actuellement à New York. De la connaissance de leur travaux réciproques est née la curiosité et l’envie de collaborer. Une envie partagée de casser les frontières entre les disciplines artistiques et de confronter leurs univers respectifs.
Cette entreprise devient donc un projet interactif, mélant la danse, la vidéo, la musique et le décor. Nicolas Rieben est plasticien mais il s’est intéressé à participer également à la chorégraphie, en la traitant comme un élément visuel. Pas de division dans la conception du travail. Un projet vice et versa, en mouvement.
