Filibert Tologo

Dancer / Choreographer / Teacher

Coming from a traditional African dance background, Filibert Tologo first danced in companies that identify with this style. Very soon attracted by contemporary dance, he discovered that he already had an intensity of movement very similar to this technique.

He then gave her first contemporary touch to the company from which he came and created his own company, “Yaala”. Between 1996 and 2001 he worked in Africa where he was very active. He toured with the troupe “Farafina Yelemba” and created his own pieces such as Donsein and Tumadjan. He also received the 1998 prize of the National Week of Culture in Bobo Dioulasso for modern stage art and the second Grand National Prize for contemporary dance choreography thanks to Tumadjan, a modernized traditional dance piece. In 2002 he moved to Geneva and since then has been very dynamic in the cultural life of the city as a choreographer, dancer and teacher.

He’s been involved in the creations of renowned choreographers. He was for example invited to choreograph the danced parts of Ngoye: Un Antigone d’Afrique directed by Gilles Laubert and the African episode of Le Tour du Monde en 80 minutes by Bejart. Filibert has also regularly cooperated with Foofwa d’Imobilité since 2006. He has also set up the Filibert Tologo Co. and has developed his own work, blending traditional African dance and modern dance, in his creations Mater, Kouman (speech), or Empreinte (Footprint) and Kellem, which where then co-produced by the Contemporary Dance Association (Geneva). While following his work of creating a dance at the border of modernity and traditionality, with Doûna, Filibert Tologo continues his choreographic approach by questioning the unknown.
