“Glacier” is a Franco-Provençal term that has been used since the 16th century in Valais, it is preferred since the middle of the 17th century in France to the term “glacière”, which was used until then.

The Lonza River flows through the Lötschental, which gave its name to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry of the Lonza Group. In the Lötschental, there is a carnival with Tschägätta masks: disguise, satire, dances, serious scenes, culinary and erotic pleasures, struggles, parties, social criticism activities.

From Rottu to Rhône

In the valley where it grows, the Rhône (Rotten in German, Rottu in Walliserdeutsch) has undergone numerous developments aimed at controlling its flow and reducing the harmful effects of its floods. After the Rhône corrections of 1863 and 1930, a third correction has been in progress since 2009.

The Bois de Finges recalls the installation of Marcel Duchamp’s last major work, “Etant donnés”, which originated in a waterfall in French-speaking Switzerland. This Bois de Finges that Corinna Bille loved: “A willow branch shaken by the current, a pine tree standing still on the sky, puts me in a state close to ecstasy, and I understand that in the past people loved trees, waters.”

Popular (Everyone Is a V.I.P.)

Between Charrat and Martigny in Guercet there is a chapel entirely decorated by Mizette Putallaz (paintings, altarpiece and statues), the first ever graduate of the school of fine arts (today EDHEA). She even had to design her own Diploma. In the 1950s, in Valais, she had to fight to defend her right to being a female painter.

All day long programming was designed and thought by Daniel Rausis with the participation of the inhabitants of the region

Today’s Dancewalk will freely be inspired by local folk songs and dances

By the evening of October 6, Foofwa will certainly have covered 215 kilometres or more. Even if the meaning of dancing more than 200 kilometres in 10 days remains subject to interpretation, it is quite possible that this performance is a unique phenomenon.
